4-H Club Information
2024-2025 Club/Activity Offerings
As you enroll make sure to check any club/activity you are interested in to stay up to date with targeted emails. Below is a list of the traditional clubs/activities we are offering in Woodford County.
Cloverbud Club - Ages 5-8 - This is a great club that offers pre-4-H age youth a taste of what 4-H has to offer. This club meets once a month and is volunteer-led and parents are asked to stay through the duration of the meeting to assist with the activities. This club typically meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month and requires a preregistration for each month at this link: https://uky.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eKXtSFix8sGRY58
2024 Dates: 9/11, 10/9, 11/13 and 12/11 – spring dates will be sent out once confirmed.
Livestock Club - The 4-H Livestock Club is for any youth interested in learning more about the livestock industry which includes traditional animal species such as cattle, sheep, pigs and goats. This year, the livestock club will also be incorporating poultry into the meetings and may feature some equine science as well. The club meets twice a month (except for December, January and May) with one business meeting ran by elected 4-H officers and one educational speaker/field trip day.

4-H Livestock Skillathon – Think academic team but focused on livestock education, this team begins practice in November with practice frequency increasing in January and February, for the Kentucky 4-H State Livestock Skill-a-thon contest in February. Practices typically take place on Wednesdays and Fridays at 4pm at the Woodford County Extension Office. Livestock Skill-a-thon practices count for an hour of livestock education necessary to participate in a livestock animal project or the country ham project.
Meeting Dates (4:30pm-6pm): 11/14, 11/21, 12/5, 12/12, 12/19
4-H Country Ham Project – Learn how to dry-cure a country ham and develop your public speaking skills through the country ham project. As part of the livestock club, participants will cure two hams in January, clean them in May and then clean them again in August, under the direction and with assistance by the Extension staff. In addition, all participants must give a speech in August at the Kentucky State Fair, which along with their ham, will be scored. Country ham participants must also agree to participate in the 4-H Communications contest held in January. Information and contracts for the country ham project will be made available in October/November.
4-H Civics Club – Middle school and high school only – Looking for an opportunity to learn more about our local government and how it runs? This club is geared to provide educational experiences and speakers for youth interested! High school students will meet from 5-6pm to learn content and engage with guest speakers while middle school participants will come from 6pm-7pm to engage with the high school mentors and any presenters. Topics include governmental structures and services, and elections and will include a trip to the state capitol in March as part of 4-H Capitol Experience. Lego Robotics – K-8th Grade – Learn how to build, program and battle a Lego EV3 as part of the 4-H Lego Robotics club. For more information, contact the Extension Office.
STEAM Sewing - The 4-H STEAM Sewing club is an opportunity for youth interested in sewing, fabric, and textiles to explore those concepts in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). In order to be eligible to participate youth must have completed at least one Unit-1 sewing project prior. This club meets the 2nd Monday of each month from 5-6:30pm. Teen Leadership - Join teens from Woodford County 4-H as we have fun, develop leadership skills and explore service learning throughout the year! This club typically meets the 4th Wednesday of each month at 6:00pm. For more information, contact the Extension Office.
Shooting Sports - Woodford County 4-H Shooting Sports is for any youth in Woodford County ages 9 years and older and offers opportunities to explore several disciplines in shooting sports including archery, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, and shotgun. In addition, participants will take part in Youth Hunter Education Courses and hear from guest speakers and experts in the field. This club will start in the fall meeting on Monday evenings at 6pm.
